Boyle Heights takes a trip up the Arroyo, with James Joyce

Libros Schmibros is breathing easy right now, having just presented the XXII North American James Joyce conference at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, and Caltech, June 12-16. It took all our efforts to corral Joyce scholars from four continents, as well as poets Eavan Boland, Paul Muldoon and Sinead Morrissey, novelist Nicholson Baker, and Irish stage and screen legend Fionnula Flanagan in a program that was both academically and artistically rich. Store staff–David, Colleen, and all the magnificent Libros volunteers Barbara Galletly, Andrew Vasquez, Joshua Dick, Melissa Runnels, and Bianca Barragan –and behind-the-scenes Libros members Joe Bristow and Gwin Wheatley worked almost ’round the clock in the lead-up to the event, which went just great.

This weekend they will all take a much-needed holiday on Monday, July 4th, and hope that you have a wonderful fireworks-filled Independence Day! See you on Wednesday, July 6th!
